An ability to score goals, some at vital stages, was a main difference between the teams as St. Finbarr's progressed to the third round of this years Permanent T.S.B senior hurling championship. They defeated Catherine's on a final score line of 4-10 to 0?13. But it is not the end of the road. That result , and with other games more or less panning out as expected means that Douglas now provide second round opposition in Midleton. Realistically Catherine's will have to win that match so we will defer some serious soul searching for another day. The game against the Barrs, themselves twenty five times county champions doubled as a league fixture and this means ~we only have three points collected from the opening eight matches.

Victories over Ballinacurra and Dungourney have seen the junior hurlers collect four from their opening six league matches, while the minor hurlers were well beaten by Castlecurra and Aghada in their pre?exam league programme.

Football fortunes continued on the slippery slope. An Noel O'Neill goal helped to record a four point win over Russell Rovers in the first round of the under twenty one 'B' football championship. Although upsides with the opposition at 2?5 a piece to three quarter mark.

Fr 0' Neill's eventually pulled away to record a comprehensive victory in the resultant quarter final. They themselves, who have good players like Eoin Conway and John Flavin in their line up, were subsequently annihilated by Bride Rovers in the last four. This throws further cold water on Catherine's meagre progression through a championships of little public appeal.
An inability to field a team has cost the club dearly in the first division of the junior football ball league. The Noel O'Neill managed minor football squad might provide light at the end of the tunnel. They have won three of their four league style championship matches. To clarify, this year's championship is played on a league basis, with the top four advancing to the semi finals, the remainder; play off for the league title.

The aforementioned Bride Rovers began and finished their under twenty one championship campaign in Ballynoe, culminating in a final win, after extra time, over a Lisgoold team that was losing a second successive final. Erin's Own were crowned 'A' champions, in the second leg of a double header, with a win over Glenville. It was Erin's Own's second successful championship raid to Ballynoe

Their senior hurlers were comprehensive 2-21 to 0-9 first round winners over last year's semi?finalists, Castlelyons. All juvenile leagues, in both codes, are progressing. Highlight so far, in an underage season waiting to ignite, has been the performance of the under fifteen footballer's. They just failed to defend their championship won so gloriously last year. In the end Cloyne were crowned under fifteen 'B' champions on a final scoreline of 3-12 to 3-9, ai that after extra time. Wins over Glenbower Rovers/Ita's and Ballinacurra earned the Saints a final place. The under twelve footballer's reserved their best performance, alb( in defeat, when Glenville defeated them in the championship quarter final on a score line of 4-5 to 1-6.

St. Catherines's continue to supply up and coming talent to various under age division teams. Long may it continue? Padraig Cotter and Patrick 0' Neill made the starting line up as Imokilly lost out by?a narrow two point margin to North Tipperary in the final of the Munster inter divisional under sixteen hurling championship. There was better luck for the under fifteens as they reversed last years Stephen Nolan Final defeat with narrow one point win over Seandun in the Dick Barry Shield decider.

The team included Kevin Dinneen and Edward Kenneally. Incidentally, Padraig Cotter, now breaking into the senior panel, was involved with the St. Colmans team.

Sympathy to the Hegarty family Glounthaune on the sad passing of Eileen. In recent times we've also lost Maureen Neville, Ballynock and Christina Buckley, Ballynoe

Commiserations also to the Dunlea Family, Ballymurphy, on their recent sad family bereavement.

St. Catherine's staged the Cork County Board draw for the month of April, McAuliffe's Ballynoe was the appointed venue.

Congratulations to Fiona Neville, Ballynoe P.0, on winning a record accumulated club lotto jackpot of IE3,400 when the draw was held in the Plough, Curraglass, on Monday April 22nd last. The winning sequence of numbers was 3 , 8 and 13. But the highlight would have to be the juvenile fundraising social, at marvellous night was had in the
Winners Enclosure on Friday May 3rd. Cash strapped and with a number of prerequisites pending, most notably goalposts suitable for the under twelve and younger as w, as jerseys for both the under fourteens and sixteens , the public response was much
greater than expected, ensuring that the whole undertaking was a huge success.

Well done to all committee members who worked tirelessly, but a special mention goes te
Pat and Dolores Hartigan. I tell " ya, Charlie McCreevy could take a leaf out of their bo(
when it comes to fundraising.

Until the next time we leave you with a full list of the juvenile sponsors.
